Girls Golf
Lady Jacket Linksters Come in Fourth at State
Experience pays off, as the Lady Jacket golf team discovered at the State Tournament Tuesday. Wall, Callisburg and Salado all have been to the state tournament at least three of the past four years, and they took the gold, silver, and bronze respectively. The Lady Jackets had to settle for a fourth-place finish. Of course, keep in mind, that is fourth in the entire state of Texas, and still quite an achievement.
Lady Jacket Senior Danielle Rivera turned in an 83 for Day One and an 88 for Day Two, totalling out at 171. The only Jacket to finish with two scores in the 80's, Danielle ended up 15th in the individual medalist race. This is Danielle's second trip to the State Tournament, where she competed as an individual last year. The rest of the Jacket team were making their first appearance at the state tournament, and it appeared that maybe the pressure got to them just a bit, as the Jackets gained 23 strokes in their second day over their Day One performance.
Senior Lauren Nutt dropped her score from a 93 on Day One to an 87 on Day Two to submit at two-day total of 180. Sophomore Allison Michel had a strong 87 on the first day, but slipped a little on the second day, coming in at 99, for a total of 186. Freshman Lindsay Nutt posted an 89 the first day, and a 101 the second to come in at 190. Junior Ravyn Marshall had a 97 and a 109 to end at 206. Teammates Rachel Terry and Alex McClennon accompanied their team, but were not eligible to play.
As a team, the Lady Jackets ended up fourth in the state. Not bad at all for a bunch of West Texas girls, who consider themselves lucky if the "greens" are anything but brown out here in the desert. Region One rival Wall is the State Champion for the third year in a row at 643, and Region Two's Callisburg came in second at 655. Salado, from Region Four, managed to grab the bronze medal with a 696, and the Jackets ended the tourney at 727. This was the first time since 1985 that the Lady Jackets have had a team qualify for the state tournament. While they will lose their two seniors, the rest of the girls hope to be back at state next year with some experience of their own. Look out, Wall!

WE ARE PROUD OF YOU, LADY JACKETS!
