KERMIT ISD CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION
"E Pluribus Unum---Out of Many, One"
"A teacher is a compass that activates the magnets of curiosity, knowledge, and wisdom in the pupils." ~Ever Garrison
The Director of Curriculum and Instruction does exactly as the title implies--he or she must direct the curriculum and instruction of Kermit ISD. They set learning goals, direct scope & sequence of learning across the curriculum, provide needed staff development to help personnel meet those goals, and seek & administer grants to help fund those goals.
This involves aligning curriculum vertically across grade levels, building a logical sequence for learning. For example, Kindergarten must lay the correct foundation for First Grade to build upon, who in turn must prepare students for Second Grade, etc. English III must build the pre-requisite skills for English IV, and so on, all the way to graduation. The Curriculum Director also is responsible for coordinating teamwork between departments, so that each department supports the learning objectives of the other.
In addition to directing curriculum and instruction, the Director is responsible for No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Title programs, Dyslexia, Human Resources, Bilingual/ESL, Career and Technical Education, Gifted/Talented programs, the Student Success Initiative, Response to Intervention, Section 504, Migrant Program, state and local assessments, and accountability.
