The district is fully accredited (PK-12) by the Texas Education Agency. Kermit Independent School District serves appoximately 1300 students, and employs nearly 250 employees. The District is classed as a 2A school district for UIL competition, and we proudly support the KJHS Daubers and the KHS Yellow Jackets. Our District currently is home to:
KISD is in the middle of a facilities construction bond project totalling $33 million. Fall of 2009 marks the opening of the brand-new Kermit Elementary School and the demise of East Primary Elementary and Purple Sage Elementary. Construction is underway on the new high school on the old East Primary lot, which will allow classes to proceed in the current building throughout construction. Other facility upgrades are also ongoing. Kermit Junior High has undergone a face-lift and needed updates, and Walton Field is getting a turf surface, just to name a couple. The District's Motto for the 2009-2010 school year is "Changing the Future. . . One Child at a Time." Our theme this year builds on the last two years' mottos--"Constructing our Future" (2007-2008,) and "Today's Children. . .Tomorrow's Possibilities" (2008-2009.) The children we encounter everyday are our future as a community, a nation, and a global community, they are our possibilities, and the future looks bright! We, as educators, hold the future in our hands, and we must do our best to assure that each child has the opportunity to embrace his or her full potential. The only way we can change the future, one child at a time, is by making sure that our children are our number one focus. Whenever we make choices and decisions, we strive to always ask ourselves... "Is this best for kids?" "Are we doing everything we can to help them succeed?" "Is what I'm doing going to make my students better learners?" "How can I improve what I'm doing?" Kermit ISD attempts to answer these questions through team planning, professional development, data analysis, benchmarks, diversified student support and the best teaching possible. We have made tremendous academic progress over the past few years, but we can, must and will do better. A joint effort from our outstanding students, caring parents, and dedicated faculty and staff will make academic excellence inevitable. Our children are our future! We can make a difference! |
