Kermit, Texas was named after Kermit Roosevelt, NOT Kermit the Frog (our town was named first!); but when the internationally famous Muppet turned 50, he kicked off his world-wide birthday tour in Kermit, Texas. The city of Kermit and KISD rolled out the "green carpet" to welcome Kermit. Kermit's visit coincided with Kermit High School's 2005 Homecoming, so the little green frog was crowned Homecoming King.
